From Sunny Skies to Stormy Weather: How to Prepare Your Horse for Any Forecast

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

They say it's always sunny in California. During the last few weeks, you could've fooled me! During inclement weather, it's important to keep your horse safe and content while he is confined to his stall. As owners, it's stressful for us to envision these magnificent creatures locked up in their stall waiting for the rain to end. However, it's even more stressful on the horse, especially mentally active horses. This is the time when your horse needs his "spa day" more than ever! When horses are confined to their stall it's important to keep them as mentally stimulated and physically active as possible. Some bodywork treatments that can help include massage, acupressure, fascia work, and stretching. These treatments can help improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, and promote general overall well-being in your horse. Did you know that a PEMF session is the equivalent to a 60 minute ride?

In addition to bodywork treatments, you can also put a variety of toys and treats to keep your horse mentally stimulated. Hang up a salt lick, hay net, or treat feeder. Put a ball, traffic cone, or mirror in his stall. You can also consider using a natural calming supplement or essential oils to help your horse relax.

Most owners and trainers are off site during bad weather. This can be the perfect opportunity for you and your horse to have some quality cuddle and grooming time. Or, why not schedule a spa day with Equizen Horse Massage? Your horse can enjoy a restorative bodywork session while being pampered and made to feel special outside of his stall!
